Small Acreage Farms Enlisting Organic and Good Agriculture Practices (SAFE O-GAPs),

Summary

The main objective of the project is to produce a manual that address both organic practices and good agricultural practices. We have met with growers several times over the summer 2009 and have adapted a manual for GAPs to address organic practices as much as possible.

Objectives/Performance Targets

• January 31st Collaborator review of O-GAPs manual completed
  February 20th O-GAPs manual reviewed at NM organic conference

Accomplishments/Milestones

The major contributors and growers have reviewed a final draft of the manual.
During the organic conference (February 19-20th in Albuquerque, NM) more feedback was obtained on the manual. It was decided that the manual needed to be updated for practices in the southwest and updated for the latest changes in the USDA GAP matrix.

Impacts and Contributions/Outcomes

Although we have modified this manual several times, we don’t feel that it will meet the needs of growers in its current state. More time is needed to further review and update this manual.
