    Proposal abstract:

    Middle and high school students at Community GroundWorks' (CGW) Goodman Youth Grow Local Farm will be trained as beekeepers during the farm's summer program. A core group of interested youth will learn the practical skills and knowledge of beekeeping. In addition, the farm summer curriculum (presented to all youth who work on the farm) will explore the role of bees in the sustainable agriculture system and in the smaller scale youth farm environment. The youth beekeepers will pass on the knowledge learned at the end of the summer by hosting several educational sessions: one for a group of elementary school students in an adjacent summer camp, one for fellow middle and high school students in the farm summer program, and one for adults and youth from their own community center.
