Northern Queen Initiative (NQI)
Description:
5 Steps to Successfully Introduce VSH Virgin Queens is an educational guide developed through the Northern Queen Initiative to help beekeepers successfully introduce VSH virgin queens into queenless nucs or mating boxes. The guide outlines a practical five-step process, including preparing a queenless nuc, confirming hopeless queenlessness, installing the virgin queen, checking release and acceptance, and confirming queenright status after mating. It also explains why virgin queens can be a cost-effective and time-efficient option for improving queen quality, genetic diversity, and access to mite-resistant stock adapted to local conditions.
