Description:
First introduced to North America in the 1600s, Cirsium arvense is a colony forming perennial thistle species that may be called Canada thistle, California thistle, or Creeping thistle. It is often considered one of the worst weeds in temperate regions globally. In this video we will discuss this pesky invasive weed, control methods, and the current best biological control agent for use against creeping thistle, Puccinia suaveolens, a rust fungus. Topics will include regulation of pathogens in biological control, identification, collection, sorting, release and what to expect.
