Description:
Diffuse and spotted knapweed, Centaurea diffusa and Centaurea stoebe, are weedy rangeland species introduced from Europe in the late 1800 as a contaminant of alfalfa seed. In this video we will discuss these pesky invasive weeds (that hybridize!), control methods, and the current best classical biological control agents for use against diffuse or spotted knapweed, Larinus minutus, Larinus obtusus and Cyphocleonus achates, the knapweed seed weevils and knapweed root weevil. Topics will include identification, collection, sorting, release and what to expect from these biological control agents.
