Description:
Leafy spurge, Euphorbia virgata, is an aggressive colony forming perennial plant introduced to North America in the early 1800s from Eurasia. It is commonly found in rangelands and as a contaminant of hay fields. While management of leafy spurge can be difficult, there are two common and successful classical biological control agents for use against leafy spurge to utilize in integrated weed management. This video will cover the life cycle, scouting, collection, sorting, and release of both leafy spurge flea beetles, Aphthona spp., and the leafy spurge red-headed stem borer Oberea erythrocephala.
