In 2008, Brandon Jaeger received a SARE grant to grow and market staple seed crops in Appalachian Ohio. Demand grew, and together with Michelle Ajamian, Jaeger started a business, Shagbark Seed and Mill, a staple food processing facility. Shagbark sold $10,000 worth of product its first year. By 2013, they reached $321,000 in sales.
