Video to promote sustainable agriculture practices implemented in Puerto Rico, sponsored by the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (SARE). This summary describes soil as a living system and explains why healthy soil is the foundation of sustainable agriculture. It details key characteristics of fertile soil and promotes proven conservation practices—vegetative barriers, crop rotation, contour planting, and cover crops—to prevent erosion, retain moisture and nutrients, and build long-term resilience in Puerto Rico’s diverse and often steep terrains.
