This summary traces the history of coffee in Puerto Rico and presents sustainable practices for the crop that balance social, environmental, and economic needs. It covers shade-grown systems, living cover crops, drip irrigation, diversification with bananas and other species, and direct marketing through fair-trade channels to reduce climate vulnerability and improve farmer livelihoods.
