Soil is a living ecosystem! The vitality of this system impacts the quantity and quality of what we can produce on our farms and in our gardens, and it also affects how much carbon gets stored in the soil or released into the atmosphere. Briana Alfaro, Soul Fire Farm’s soil carbon field researcher, shares ways to test soil for indicators of soil health and soil carbon: the Munsell soil color test, the microbiome meter field test, the Solvita soil respiration test, and the and the soil hardness test.
