Description:
Stock dogs used to assist livestock producers with daily management can save time, labor, and reduce stress on both you and the stock as well as open up many opportunities to grow and enhance your business. The largest benefit will be realized with the producer understanding how to apply low-stress stockman skills while working the stock dog and develop a relationship built on mutual trust and respect. Training using the dog's instincts and mind rather than obedience and mechanical training will enable the dog to become a partner in your operation. This handout serves as an introduction to herding terms and training to accomplish that goal.
