About
Analena Bruce is the Principal Investigator of the UNH Food Systems Lab and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Food Systems at the University of New Hampshire. She is a sociologist with a research program on the development of sustainable livelihood strategies for New England farmers and Values-Based Food Supply Chains. Her current team's research project is a holistic examination of the constellation of institutional and farm-level factors that shape the viability of small and mid-sized farms in New England, with a focus on the barriers and opportunities for increasing farm income and food production for local and regional food systems. We analyze the role of Values-Based Food Supply Chains designed to increase equity, transparency and farm viability, and increase the resilience of the Northeast region’s food supply in the face of disruptions from climate change. Her previous research was focused on farmers’ participation in initiatives designed to increase the social and environmental sustainability of agriculture, including Alternative Food Networks, organic certification, the EQIP Seasonal High Tunnel Initiative, and other conservation programs.
