About
Dr. Schmidt leads an integrated research and extension program focused on supporting socially and environmentally responsible livestock production to enhance soil, water and air quality. In response to worldwide concerns about antibiotic resistance, she also collaborates across disciplinary boundaries to support the One Health Initiative through research and outreach addressing potential food safety, health and environmental risks associated with livestock manure management. She is particularly devoted to training the next generation of extension professionals, which she accomplishes by engaging all of her graduate students in outreach to demonstrate value in transferring their research into practice. She also strives to continually improve upon the outreach methods she uses in her programming to deliver innovative, impactful and relevant resources to intended audiences. Dr. Schmidt received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State University in 1997 and 1999, respectively. She completed her Ph.D. in Biological Engineering at Mississippi State University in 2010.
