About
Dr. Juliana Vasco-Correa is an Assistant Professor of Bioproducts Systems Analysis in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Penn State. Her research focuses on systems analysis of bio-based technologies, and bioproducts generation and application. Dr. Vasco holds a bachelor’s degree in Biological Engineering and a Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology from the National University of Colombia, as well as PhD in Biological Engineering from The Ohio State University, where she worked on bioprocessing of lignocellulosic biomass using technologies such as solid-state fermentation and anaerobic digestion. She did a postdoc in the Biosystems Analysis Lab at Ohio State, where she worked on hybrid anaerobic digestion-based biorefineries.
The Vasco Bioeco Lab uses process systems engineering tools such as process modeling and optimization, techno-economic analysis, and life-cycle assessment to assist in the development and analysis of integrated biosystems for the valorization of biomass resources and upcycling of waste streams.
