About
Dr. Marcia Ostrom is an Associate Professor of Sustainable Food Systems in the School of the Environment and the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences at Washington State University (WSU). She teaches courses on sustainable food and farming systems, agroecology and social movements and leads interdisciplinary research and extension programs focused on improving the sustainability, equity, and resilience of small and mid-sized farms and regional food systems. While at WSU, she has established and directed the WSU Small Farms Program, the WSU Cultivating Success Sustainable Farming Education Program, the WSU Immigrant Farmer Program, and the Washington Farm Walk Program. Improving immigrant farmer access to land- grant university resources and value-added markets is a long-time focus of her work. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin, an M.S. in Natural Resources Sociology from Cornell, and an AB from Harvard. Her current appointment combines teaching, research, and extension.
