About
Noreen Thomas has been farming with husband for over 30 years. The local food launch of the farm started when the Thomas children were little. Determined to have each child launch micro-businesses they rolled out mushrooms growing, chickens, turkeys, eggs, dairy, goats, lambs, grass-fed beef as well as rolled oats, pancake mixes, and agri-tourism. All graduated from college with little or no debt. Thomas also does a lot of community outreach and gardens with children from the homeless shelter on the farm. Thomas'es work with preserving rare tribal seeds and also helping the greater community has be awarded the UMN highest award, the Siehl Prize. She is a Bush Fellow, USDA Patrick Madden Award Winner, Disney's National Community Service Award, and Red Cross'es Everyday Hero Award. She is a grower for Dan Barber's ( chef from A Chef's Table) Row 7 Seed company ; and a guest of KVLY Dakota Today Show and The Food Network . Thomas'es degrees are a bachelor's of science in food and nutrition, microbiology, and chemistry. Thomas is well known for "out of the box thinking" and determined nature. Thomas was a contract worker for a Farmer Service Agency outreach to help women and underserved utilize farm programs and volunteers time for mentoring beginning farmers and new farmhers. In prior work she was a professional tea taster and beer taster for Coors ( yes I spit it out), lab technician, and USDA researcher.
