Created a human-scale beekeeping business that supplies friends and neighbors with honey and value added bee products. Also sells nucleus colonies and provides bees for Vermont apple pollination in the spring. Since 2000, has successfully presented numerous workshops, lectures and courses on honey bees, organic beekeeping, and related topics throughout North America. Has become a popular and highly sought after speaker at both national and local.beekeeping conferences and events. Has maintained educational bee hives at the Middlebury College Organic Garden since 2005. Wrote first book to be published on the topic of Organic Beekeeping in 2007 (Natural Beekeeping). Published the second edition of Natural Beekeeping 2013. Co-authored The Land of Milk and Honey: A History of Vermont Beekeeping (2019). Has been a regular contributor to Bee Culture: The Magazine of American Beekeeping since 2007, and has written bee related articles for numerous publications including: Hobby Farms, The Farmer’s Almanac, The Australasian Beekeeper, and BEEkeeping: The First Three Years, among others.
