About

Dr. Rhonda Phillips was appointed Dean of the Purdue Honors College in July 2013. She is responsible for developing and implementing the new Honors College to serve students across all disciplines at the university. Prior to her appointment, Dr. Phillips served as Associate Dean for Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University and as a professor in the School of Community Resources and Development. She also served as Senior Sustainability Scientist in ASU’s Global Institute of Sustainability.
As a planning and economic development specialist, community quality of life and well-being comprise the focus of Dr. Phillips’ research and outreach activities. She is author or editor of eighteen books, including Introduction to Community Development and Local Food and Community Development. She is former editor of the journal, Community Development, and is founding editor of the book series, Introduction to Community Development Research and Practice and CDS Current Issues.
Phillips' work prior to joining academe was in community and economic planning and development at the state, local and regional levels; she holds professional certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners. She is President for the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies, and serves on the national accrediting Planning Accreditation Board site visitor team.
Dr. Phillips received her doctorate in city and regional planning and a M.S. in economics from the Georgia Institute of Technology; and an M.S. in economic development and a B.S. in geography from the University of Southern Mississippi.
