About
Van Hook earned degrees in Botany BA and Mycology MA from Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, CA in 1977 and 1985. She worked 5 years as a preserve manager for The Nature Conservancy and 5 years as Director of Conservation and Stewardship for Maine Coast Heritage Trust. She taught biology and environmental science at Skidmore College for 18 years and was the founding mycologist for Ecovative, a mushroom materials tech company from 2007-2016. Mushroom buoys to replace plastic EPS and PE buoys is her passion.
