About

Walter Goldstein is Executive Director of the Mandaamin Institute which was begun in 2011 to further work breeding corn for organic farmers. He worked for 25 years as Research Director for Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, pursuing on-farm research on soil organic matter management, weed control, rotations, soil health, cover crops, biodynamic methods, wheat varieties, and breeding corn. He also gained a decade of experience helping farmers in former East Block countries to farm organically. Present work entails developing, testing, and commercializing wheat and corn varieties in the context of a breeder/farmer/company/consumer association. Emphasis in corn is on high nutritional value (protein quality and carotene) coupled with N efficiency and performance in low-input, N limited farming systems.
