Summary:

Note to reader attached is the complete final report for FNE02-400.

In summary, it is possible to make a nutritionally complete poultry feed using entirely Maine-grown grains. While it is possible to use barley in the rations, an enzyme must be added to aid digestion. The growing season in Maine is too short to raise dry field corn. An organic feed would be restricted to soya, wheat, oats and hull-less oats. Due to availability, organic vitamins and minerals must be imported from out of state.
