Report for YNC08-026
Project Information
The purpose of this project is to explore Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). The pilot CSA project with Omaha's Jewish community would recruit twenty total families from two congregations, Temple Israel and Beth El Synagogue, to purchase a share of local farmer Rebecca Bloom's organic crops from mid May through October of 2009. Each week on Thursday mornings over the 20 week period, harvests would be taken to each synagogue and divided up into shares to be picked up by the shareholding families or donated to a local food bank. Each week, along with their produce, families would receive a newsletter with farm updates, what produce is in season, what to expect next week, pictures, and recipes. Also I plan to maintain a blog with all of the same information that can later be used to create the final project due in December 2009. Hopefully it will provide a useful model for other local farmers, give customers a better understanding of where their food is coming from, and help to expand the business of Rebecca Bloom in seasons to come.
