Indiana Agritourism Training Initiative
Summary
Thirty “Educators” and 120 producers participated in the pre-conference agri-tourism workshop to the 2006 Indiana Horticulture Congress. 7 “Educators” and 24 producers participated in one workshop conducted at an agri-tourism business in 2006 to complete the sixth workshop to be held around the state. Partnering and collaboration is taking place between “Educators” and other “Educators” as well as Producers around the State.
Forty two prodcuers and 13 “Educators” completed Nx Level (Business Planning Classes) around the State.
The agri-tourism resource guide is being printed and a searchable CD will be completed by the end of the project with 7000 CD’s being sent out Statewide.
Objectives/Performance Targets
The short term outcomes of this project are in increased awareness of the agri-tourism potential by the “Educators” around the State. Thirty “Educators increased their knowledge of the resources and partners that can assist producers in starting agri-tourism ventures on their farms. Forty producers and 17 “Educators” completed the Nx Level Program.
Medium outcomes include that 25 “Educators” will use skills learned to assist producers in building agri-tourism businesses on their farms.
The long term outcome will be that a statewide network will be established to foster agri-tourism enterprises that will contribute to farm and rural sustainability.
