Proposal abstract:
1.The audience is diverse farmer elders and their caregivers, ag professionals, farmer educators, on-farm service providers (organic inspectors, vets, feed suppliers
2. Through Mental Health First Aid training, 80% of ag professionals and allied professionals will gain knowledge in identifying and assisting those in need. The Honoring Our Elders curriculum targets cultural norms to empower attendees in addressing elders' issues, with a goal of 95% feeling more capable. Additionally, the project anticipates at least 60 farmer elders experiencing improved wellness, while engaging 40 farmer allies through the Ag Solidarity Network for mental health and wellness support.
3.The Mental Health First Aid Training will involve 120 ag professionals and allied professionals, focusing on creating relevant case studies for diverse elders. The Honoring Our Elders Training will engage 80 ag professionals, 20 allied professionals, and 20 diverse caregivers, with 5 professionals later presenting the curriculum in their communities.
Through the Ag Solidarity Network, 40 farmers and professionals will join the Farmer Ally Network, with 5 communities identified for ally support.
Additionally, 10 Honoring Our Elders trainings will be promoted, along with 2 articles in the Organic Broadcaster highlighting diverse farmer elders' leadership.
Project objectives from proposal:
Mental Health First Aid Training
120 ag professionals and other allied professionals working with diverse elders and their care givers will attend training.
Trainers and attendees will create relevant case studies within the training for this population.
Honoring Our Elders: Diverse Farmer Elders Training
80 ag professionals, 20 allied professionals working with diverse elders, and 20 diverse caregivers will attend training.
5 ag professionals will present the training in their own communities and provide feedback as a result of the Training of Trainers curriculum.
Ag Solidarity Network: Farmer Ally Network
40 farmers and ag professionals will join the Farmer Ally Network group.
At least 5 communities will be identified that have ally support for farmers facing discrimination.
10 Honoring Our Elders trainings and resources will be promoted through the Ag Solidarity Network.
Organic Broadcaster Article
2 articles will highlight the Honoring Our Elders project, including story telling of diverse farmer elders as community leaders.
