Advanced Organic and Biodynamic Vegetable Production Workshop

Summary

Successful organic and biodynamic vegetable farmers have much to offer the growing sustainable agriculture movement. From environmentally sound production methods to creative marketing techniques to new forms of interaction between farmers and consumers, they are pioneering a variety of positive changes in agriculture. The proposed workshop for Extension, NRCS and farmers will increase participants’ knowledge of successful organic and biodynamic vegetable farming systems, strengthen dialogue between organic farmers and Extension/NRCS personnel and demonstrate a successful workshop model for farmer-to-farmer exchange. Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, a non-profit educational and research institute in sustainable agriculture, has conducted successful grower workshops since 1990 and wants to expand its audience to include Extension, NRCS personnel and participants from additional states. A multi-state Extension/sustainable agriculture organization steering committee will guide the development of the workshop, assist in publicity, recruit participants and commit to the workshop’s success.
