Sustainable Agriculture Marketing Education for Nebraska

Summary

Proposal Summary:
Farmers and ranchers can increase their profits and improve their quality of life through value-added marketing. This project will train Nebraska Extension educators and other technical assistance providers to help producers capture more of the food dollar by marketing sustainably raised foods directly to consumers.

Through a series of workshops and field days, farmers and agency representatives will learn together about farmers' markets, community-supported agriculture, and processing and direct marketing of "healthy" meats. Three NebGuide publications will be written and distributed to help trainees implement what they learn and to broadly disseminate the information. This project will make a difference at the farm and community level by providing economic incentives to adopt sustainable agricultural practices and opportunities to keep family farms in business.
