Climate Adaptation Training for Foresters

Summary

The purpose of this project is to train professional foresters in Washington and Oregon to help woodland owners prepare for and adapt to climate change. So far, the project team has initiated preliminary planning to confirm the project timeline and has begun to notify project partners of the timeline and expected activities and milestones for 2017. The project has also reached out to the advisory group with the project timeline and initial steps.

Objectives/Performance Targets

Project objectives for 2016 were to confirm the project timeline, convene the project advisory group, and begin compiling the draft adaptation library of materials for small woodland owners.

Accomplishments/Milestones

So far, the project team has initiated preliminary planning to confirm the project timeline and has begun to notify project partners of the timeline and expected activities and milestones for 2017. The project has also reached out to the advisory group with the project timeline and initial steps. In 2017, the project team will convene the advisory group to complete the adaptation library, template adaptation plans, and training curriculum.

Impacts and Contributions/Outcomes

The primary contribution of the project to date is to help provide a framework for potential future collaboration among foresters for climate adaptation. Partners who are aware that training activities will occur in the next two years are now able to consider how to incorporate the expected activities of this project into their own plans for sharing climate adaptation information among fellow landowners and forestry and restoration professionals.
