Clearspring Produce Auction
Some producers need to work a full-time, off-farm job to compensate for the small family farm lifestyle. This leads to production and management inefficiency.
Objectives: 1) To market organically grown, integrated pest managed produce from 40 growers through a product-specific auction and 2) to encourage others to develop this marketing practice to increase their farm income and contribute to sustainable rural agriculture.
The producer’s committee volunteers managed the overall marketing concept, and an investment group built an auction barn. The concept required producers to buy memberships, an auction manager to recruit buyers and product advertising.
