Iowa Network for Community Agriculture: Forming a Network to Support Producer Initiatives for Local Food Systems

Summary

"Consumer interest in organic, local, fresh and organically grown food is growing tremendously right now, and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has proven itself a viable model elsewhere in the U.S. However, there is a gap in knowledge of and support for CSA in Iowa that needs to be addressed at this crucial point in its growth."

Objectives: To encourage new and support existing efforts in Iowa to create connections between local growers and consumers through CSA and related models. To maximize learning, and improve survival and profitability, of CSA producers, the project coordinator proposes to create a board of CSA growers and an advisory panel of relevant expertise. The project will also fund education/outreach coordination and financial/business consultation. The group will sponsor an annual workshop and field days and distribute practical information to growers and organizers.

Results: Results are not yet available.
