Rural Action Agricultural Center

Summary

"Our Core group of farmers has been meeting monthly for over a year. We have noted that profits are an underlying basis for farm and community sustainability, but that some 'conventional' agricultural practices focus on short-term profits and ignore cost to natural resources and effects on social structure. This project offers opportunities for farmers to apply appropriate technology and utilized available resources."

Objectives: To increase local farm projects through efficient, creative marketing locally grown, premium-quality meats, fruits and vegetables. To create a cooperative effort among local farmers in advertising, contacting buyers and making deliveries. To expand markets by teaching consumers about possible inaccurate perceptions about agriculture. To develop a market center which combines sales of farm products with hands-on, educational exhibits and program for a wide range of ages.

The project coordinator endeavors to design, conduct and analyze a survey of potential customers and find an appropriate site for the market cinter. The coordiantor proposes to organize meetings to align producers, identify common goals, develop and organizational structure and define guidelines for products sold. Funds may support the development, printing and distribution of brochures and advertisng.
