Livestock Re-establishment Research Project at White Violet Farm

Summary

"Our research indicates that we need livestock to move to a successful system of organic agriculture at White Violet Farm. We know that other farms which seek to restore their lands face similar dilemmas. Since the mission of our White Violet Center focuses on education, we have an ideal system for not only healing our lands, but providing a model of doing so in a sustainable, responsible way."

Objectives: To introduce livestock to 350 acres of crop land in order to transition to organic agriculture and provide agricultural education opportunities. Funds will be used to assess soils, forests and spring-fed lakes as possible sites for the re-introduction of livestock. The project coordinator will consult with land, water and forest experts; visit farms where livestock has succesfully been introduced in a sound environment and research specific species of animals.

Results: Results are not yet available. The project has been extended for one year to establish livestock.
