Don't Take Grass for Granted

Summary

Properly managed grazing systems have positve impacts on range condition, water and soil quality, and wildlife habitat, as well as meat and milk production.

Objective: To develop a managment-intensive grazing system to produce grass-fed beef and enhance wildlife habitat.

To improve carrying capacity on his ranch, the producer is using high-tensile fencing, a gravity-fed water distribution system, and inter-seeding of legumes and desirable grasses.

Results: The project was extended for one year to complete the water system and to collect data.
