Using a Confinement Building as a Deep-bedded Building Based on Hoop House Principles

Summary

Nearly every older farm has deteriorating buildings that are unusable due to unstable slats, columns and trusses. Producers can lower their future input costs by prolonging the life of these current facilities.

Objective: To convert a 1974-built completely slatted 40 by 80 foot insulated and artificially ventilated building into a properly functioning hoop house-like building.

The producer removed slats and filled the pit with unpolluted, disease-free soil.

Results: The project was extended to allow for remodeling completion.
