Organic control and management of tarnished plant bug.

Summary

The tarnished plant bug is fairly easily managed using non-organic methods, but does considerable damage to organic strawberries, potatoes, flowers, and herbs. This project will explore how commercial sprays like Sabadilla dust, and home-made preparations like nettle tea, affect the tarnished plant bug. The farmer will also be mowing and cultivating cover crops and weedy areas to see how alteration of the habitat affects populations of the bug. Effects will be measured using sticky traps and by assessing crop damage.
