    Proposal summary:

This project will explore the observation that cows increase their dry-matter intake when the lights are left on in the barn and thus produce more milk. The farmer will see whether the observation holds for cows at pasture; right now, he observes that his cows lie down at night and only eat the grass near their heads. By using a portable halogen light system, the farmer will give the cows the opportunity to graze, and will then see if the lighting has an impact on milk production.
