Design - Preparation of Raised Beds for Year-Round Vegetable Production in Urban Agriculture

Summary

Tight spaces and potentially contaminated soils make urban agriculture challenging, and one answer is to rely on bag culture or hydroponics. Yet this farmer’s city produces large quantities of compost—mixed with clean fill and manure, this product will be used to establish raised beds for spinach, beets, chard, and other produce for area restaurants. The larger purpose of the project is to refine production techniques for urban agriculture and offer a model to other city growers.
