Proposal summary:
To deliver nitrogen to apple trees, the farmer will develop a test block in her orchard to compare green manure, compost from off the farm, and no treatment and then use soil and leaf samples to test for nitrogen delivery. She will also measure shoot growth and evaluate fruit for size, color, sugar content, firmness, and tree productivity. The results will be offered at a growers’ meeting and, if the results prove interesting, a report will be offered in a fruit grower’s publication.
