pH and Calcium Requirement in Woods-Grown Organic Goldenseal Hydrastis Canadensis L.

Summary

Research suggests that soil pH and calcium have an effect on goldenseal production, an important medicinal. The farmer will conduct a three-year study using organic growing techniques that will control for pH and calcium. He will track weight, mortality, and leaf size and number to see what the connections might be and how they can be used to help farmers diversify. Outreach will be done by way of extension, herb publications and newsletters, and through an organic growers’ network.
