Broadcast Planting Techniques for Large Ginseng Acreage

Summary

The farmer will test growing ginseng in large acreage plots to determine if it can be grown on a sufficiently large scale to support a family. He will also test a broadcast-seeding method that has been tried elsewhere to see if it can be adapted to his farm and whether it increases yield per acre while decreasing labor. He will also observe the effects of added calcium, gypsum, and compost on the plot. Outreach will be through a presentation and brochure about the project that will be given to extension, other woodlot owners, and local economic development councils.
