Grow Organic Vegetables From Western Nigeria

Summary

Demographic changes bring new market opportunities, and the farmer, who speaks Yoruba and has direct experience with the cultivation and cuisine associated with traditional Nigerian crops, plans to grow five different ethnic vegetables from western Nigeria. The goal is to develop a database of seed sources for these ethnic vegetables, to evaluate local growing conditions, specifically climate and pest management strategies, and to develop the necessary marketing skills to expand the customer base. Extension will evaluate field and pest data, and the information gathered on production and marketing will be offered to other farmers through newsletters and farmer meetings.
