Mobile Poultry Processing Unit
Summary
Chicken processing requires travel and expense, and the smaller farm with 50 to 200 birds may use up its profit transporting the chickens and paying fees. The farmer will work with USDA and the county board of health to develop plans for a mobile processing unit that can be owned by, and serve, a consortium of producers. Costs and general feasibility will be explored, and a prototype unit will be used as an outreach and educational tool.
