  • Farm Business Management: new enterprise development, community-supported agriculture, cooperatives, marketing management, agricultural finance, market study, value added

Proposal summary:

A lack of local slaughtering facilities, potential contamination issues at out-of state facilities, and high costs limit the number of poultry that individual farmers can market. This project plans to create a state-approved on-farm slaughtering process and mobile processing unit for poultry products, and to create an association certification process and label that will assist in marketing pasture raised poultry products. Outreach will be through presentations, articles, and list serves.
