    Proposal summary:

    Rice is a tropical plant, but has already been adapted to temperate areas in Europe and Asia; whether it will be viable as a commercial crop in the Northeast is not yet established. The farmer will develop baseline organic management practices for this crop in collaboration with Cornell, and will also evaluate different rice varieties that produce seed in temperate conditions. Outreach will be through workshops and through a manual accompanied by a selection of seeds for interested growers to test in 2009.
