Promoting Summer Lettuce/Mesclun Growth and Preventing Deer Damage with Shadecloth

Summary

Summary: Lettuce seed germinates poorly in summer heat, and what grows is often browsed off by deer. Smeltzer will test a system for protecting the lettuce by hanging a shade cloth on the sunny side of each wide lettuce row. Her hope is that the shade will promote germination and growth, and the flapping material will deter deer.
