    Proposal summary:

    Nearly all the goods in Tinian are imported and relatively expensive, with the meat usually frozen and containing preservatives. This proposal intends to move the trend toward fresh chicken and egg products, free of preservatives by using alternative technology through range poultry production systems. This will include reductions in usage of insecticides, commercial fertilizer or other inorganic compounds and maximize the use pasture rotation and other best management practices for producing free-range poultry and eggs. The project will showcase its finding for other producers through publications, producer guides, field days and workshops.

    Project objectives from proposal:

    1-Adopted alternative poultry housing such as the portable chicken coop attained through demonstration of different housing design. (see photos)

    2-Utilization of cover crops as source of feeds for poultry- planted perennial peanuts for supplemental feeding

    3-Invited co-farmer and performed small group discussion about the advantages and gain with the projects- 3 separate group on farm discussion.
