Biological Control in Idaho Alfalfa Seed Fields

Summary

Lygus bugs are the most important pest of alfalfa, killing the buds and damaging the seed, along with other pests such as aphids, thrips, and mites. As more regulations, loss of chemicals, more urbanization, higher responsibility and liability to applicators grow, a biocontrol program for these pests may be a step forward for this crop and others. This project plans to demonstrate that biocontrol is an effective and feasible alternative option to pesticides for other growers.
