Alternative Cropping For the Navajo Reservation

Summary

Many small farms on the Navajo Reservation could improve their family incomes by raising melons and fruit such as peaches and apricots, which depend more on labor than machinery for management. The desired crop, alfalfa, is not feasible because it requires expensive equipment and larger plots than are available. This project plans to demonstrate the feasibility of these alternative crops.
