Genetic Upgrading and Improving Goat Management Practices on Guam

Summary

Three major problems associated with goat production on Guam are the need for genetic upgrading of broodstocks, lack of developed pasture grasses, and high incidence of internal parasites. These issues will be addressed through artificial insemination to decrease stock inbreeding, new plantings of Desmodium sp. or Flaminga sp. grasses to improve pasture sites, and systematic checks and treatment of parasites.
