Development of attract-and-kill technology against the oriental fruit moth in Pennsylvania apple orchards

Summary

The oriental fruit moth increasingly infests apples, yet the insecticides commonly used to control the moth is under scrutiny by the Food Quality Protection Act. The project leader will develop attract-and-kill, pheromone-based technology that will be field-tested in cooperation with three orchards in southeast Pennsylvania. The overall goal is to determine the most effective treatment rate in droplets per acre. Results will be sent to other fruit growers in the region and will be presented at grower conventions as well as offered to agricultural professionals through the professional and trade media.
