    Proposal abstract:

Sunrock Farm’s educational field trip program emphasizes respect for animals, plants, farms, farmers, and the natural world. This proposal is a request for funding to print copies of a children’s book and teacher’s guide that will prepare students and teachers for their field trip to Sunrock Farm. The book and guide will be distributed to pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers visiting the farm in spring 2012. Many teachers have requested classroom materials related to their farm field trip and the materials will help Sunrock Farm accomplish its goals. Sunrock Farm provides intimate, positive, hands-on experiences, as young children help a farmer staff member complete farm chores. The book will introduce children to the sights, sounds, and feels of their day at the farm. It will also emphasize what is important about each station, such as the children’s’ dependence on pigs and the responsibility involved in owning dairy animals. The book includes simple text for children including farm sounds as well as supplementary information on each page for the teacher to use as they like or for students to explore in the book on their own time.
